From a technical point of view, Rigel works with cellular technologies (GSM, GPRS and UMTS) and short range wireless technologies ( Bluetooth , Wi -Fi, ZigBee) as the enabling mechanisms that make our target services possible. The actual implementation of our products normally takes the form of computing programs of different scope, varying from complex back-end systems and distributed platforms to embedded software for specific devices.

Our software manages every aspect in relation to communication among separated devices and also it carries out every process in order to provide the best, comprehensive service to the user. These software packages are designed and developed according to the availability of appropriate platforms (Operating Systems, Virtual Machines, etc..) and also the features that those platforms offer and their associated libraries and development kits.

At Rigel we mainly work with Java platforms (J2EE, J2ME) and the Symbian and Linux Operating Systems, along tools and specialized libraries from other companies in the same field and “free software” or “open source” projects.

From a functional point of view, Rigel is an expert on creating cutting-edge systems that are leaders in a few aspects:

Seamless interoperability in heterogeneous networks. We have developed distributed platforms where different devices exchange information through a range of wireless technologies ( Bluetooth , Wi -Fi, GPRS) by using our own protocols and data structures in order to offer a transparent joint service.

Adaptation to the context (“context-awareness”) and smart surroundings (“ambient intelligence”). Making use of rule-based coding (e.g. Clips) and other mechanisms, we create services that are automatically adapted to the person's circumstances (localization, route, activity, time and date, used device, etc..) and respond accordingly to these situations.

Distributed network infrastructures with remote self-governing wireless devices.

Simplified user experience and technological transparency.
